Is It Time to Choose?

I've been having a debate with my self for the past month or so about whether I can design invitations (stationery, cards, etc.) and do web design and development.

Time tells me I can't do both.

Most of my business income comes from web design and development. I enjoy it. In fact, when it all comes together, I love it. It's like a giant puzzle coming together and that excites me.

But I long to design more invitations, stationery and cards. I have so many ideas that I haven't had time to execute. It's quite frustrating really.

Is it unrealistic to do both? Maybe I'm just not good enough to do it all. I keep hoping there will be this magical moment when I'll find this perfect alignment in the time space continuum...

Read enough business books as I have and every book/person tells you to pick one and go for it. Does this mean I should just stop designing invitations and just concentrate full force on designing websites?

What do you think?

Wow. I just looked up from some paperwork and your page was on my screen. I came across your page because a friend sent me a link to tell me about Squarespace as I am a stay at home mum doing some graphic design work. I clicked your link because my dream is to have a greeting card/stationery business and after seeing your beautiful website I left my computer telling myself I could never be as good as this, and let's face it, I'm probably just a hack. Anyway, this little note is to encourage you, because you are obviously brilliant at what you do and I'm sure you'll find a way. I'm certainly humbled and inspired by your creative use of design and copy and your beautiful invitations - I haven't seen anything like them in these parts, that's for sure! @Roslyn,

Wow... Thank you so much for such kind words of encouragement! Really, it made my day today.

I wish you the best of luck with your dreams of having a greeting card/stationery business! Starting and running your own business is just huge amounts of work but once things get rolling, it is one of the more satisfying feelings on the planet. It may not live up to a warm oozing chocolate cake but it does rank high :-)

I love Squarespace and I think once you get started on it, you will love it too!
